2 California Attorneys for Criminal Justice Since 1973 California Attorneys for Criminal Justice has advocated on criminal justice issues, educated practitioners and associated professionals, provided information and resources and a sense of community to lawyers throughout the State of California and the United States. From our initial membership of 60 lawyers, CACJ has grown
to become one of the countys largest statewide associations of criminal defense lawyers and allied professionals. Since its founding, CACJ has consistently and effectively provided a strong voice for justice, in the legislature, the courts and the media. CACJs website CACJs website (www.cacj.org) is a useful on-line resource that provides information on CACJs work and educates the public about the critical role of defense counsel. CACJs
website will soon also offer a special Members Only section that will provide members
with exclusive access to more detailed legal resources as well as information for seminars,
publications, and other events and materials.
PROGRAMS AND COMMITTEES CACJ also offers a wide range of criminal justice programs and committees to assist our membership and inform the community, including: Attorney Assistance CACJ members can tap into a network of experienced trial and appellate counsel ready to assist you so you can better represent your clients. Contempt Defense Our Contempt Defense Committee is ready to step in when member attorneys are prosecuted, subpoenaed or harassed for their vigorous defense of their clients. CACJ may
provide representation or le an amicus curiae brief at no charge if a member is facing a
contempt charge.
Death Penalty Defense CACJs Death Penalty Committee provides information about the ght to abolish the death penalty in California. Through its publications, seminars and advocacy, CACJ builds
awareness and support for the abolition of the death penalty.
Public Information CACJs Public Information Committee wages a continuing statewide media campaign for effective crime policies in California, calling on all political leaders to rationally debate
criminal justice issues and refrain from simple, quick- x solutions that do not work.
POLITICAL AND EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT CACJ PAC CACJs Political Action Committee (PAC) provides power to the legislative program by supporting candidates who share our ideals and issues of importance to the criminal
defense bar.
CACJ Foundation CACJs Foundation provides educational grants to deserving members, other practitioners and organizations, and students to support criminal justice work and scholarship and
promote awareness of criminal justice issues.

and aggressive representation to defeat or modify bad bills and promote bills of importance
to the criminal defense bar. Our legislative advocacy program has not only sponsored bills
which protect the rights of criminal defendants, but in addition, has prevented many bills
curtailing our clients rights from becoming law.
Publications Annual CACJ Membership Directory CACJ members receive a complimentary copy of the annual CACJ Membership Directory and Handbook. The Membership Directory provides quick access to Californias
leading criminal defense lawyers and allied professionals, as well as many out-of-state
references. This will enable you to quickly locate criminal defense attorneys all over

Forum Magazine CACJ members receive a complimentary one year subscription to CACJs FORUM. FORUM FORUM FORUM is a bold and insightful quarterly magazine that provides provocative and practical FORUM FORUM
